Donning Sterile Gloves & Glove Fingertip Thumb Sampling

Learning Objectives

By the end of this lesson, pharmacists and technicians will be able to:

  1. Explain the importance of sterile gloves as a barrier in aseptic compounding.
  2. Demonstrate the correct method for donning sterile gloves inside the cleanroom.
  3. Identify common errors to avoid when donning sterile gloves.
  4. Describe the purpose of Gloved Fingertip Sampling (GFS) and the Media Fill Test (MFT) in verifying aseptic technique.
  5. Perform initial, annual, and post-media fill fingertip sampling according to USP <797> requirements.
  6. Accurately label, incubate, and interpret gloved fingertip sampling plates.
  7. State compliance thresholds for GFS and MFT and explain the required corrective actions if thresholds are exceeded.
  8. Recognize the role of proper gloving and fingertip testing in ensuring patient safety.
